On May 15, 1851, at Wesleyan Female College in Macon, Georgia, Eugenia Tucker Fitzgerald and five of her closest friends, Ella Pierce Turner, Octavia Andrew Rush, Sophronia Woodruff Dews, Mary Evans Glass, and Elizabeth Williams Mitchell founded the first ever secret society for women. They named their society the Adelphean Society, which eventually took the Greek letters Alpha Delta Pi. Very little has changed in the society's principles over the past 150 years. The qualifications for membership remain the same - good scholarship, high moral standards, and loyalty.

The Zeta Eta chapter at the University of North Alabama was founded on February 17, 1974. It is only fitting that Alpha Delta Pi, the First and Finest, was the first sorority founded on campus at UNA.
